This is the index of the journal area of the portal. Archivio Italiano di Urologia e Andrologia is the official English language journal of SIA, SIEUN, SIUrO and UrOP, published quarterly since 1924 and described on the home page of Urology Planet. The pages below are its working sections, in the order a reader or an author usually needs them.
The path a manuscript follows
Knowing the sequence saves most of the questions that reach the editorial office. A submitted manuscript is assessed by the editors, sent to referees and, while it is with them, listed in papers under evaluation. Once accepted and copyedited it is published in online first, where it is already citable through its digital object identifier. It then receives volume, issue and page numbers and enters the issues of the journal, year by year. Monographic volumes follow a separate track and appear as supplementi della rivista, abstracts from society meetings as atti dei congressi.
The practical consequence is about citation: a paper in online first is cited with its identifier and no page numbers, and the same paper must be cited with volume and pages once the issue is out. The two are the same work, not two publications, and the version a reference should point to is explained on the issues page.
For readers
Full texts are open access. Papers published from 2015 onwards are covered by the publication fee, which replaces any charge to the reader, and the complete archive is consultable without subscription. Recorded talks and interviews are collected in the video section on prostate cancer and urology, news, awards and meeting announcements in the press room. Clinical reference documents used across the portal, from the European and American societies and from the Italian ones, are listed under the current urological guidelines.
Readers looking for drug information rather than for research find a separate Italian section with prices, active ingredients and prescription status: listino della farmacia con prezzi, principi attivi e obbligo di ricetta.
For authors
Submission rules, accepted article types, the structure of the manuscript, reference style and the publication fee are set out in the instructions to authors. Three points are worth checking before writing: the journal publishes in English, board and regular members of the four societies are exempt from the fee, and the fast-track option has its own conditions. Papers currently in peer review are listed in papers under evaluation, which also shows what the queue looks like at any given moment.

Who is responsible for what
Scientific responsibility for peer review and for the content of the journal lies with the editorial board, which includes the editors designated by SIA, SIEUN, SIUrO and UrOP. The portal itself — the site, its sections and their maintenance — is run by the Urology Planet board, and the publisher, with its VAT number and the ways to verify it, is described in Chi siamo. The story of the journal since its foundation is in the history of the journal since 1924.
The editorial pages of the pharmacy section follow a different process, with a named medical reviewer and a stated hierarchy of sources; it is described in redazione e revisione medica. Peer review applies to the journal, not to those pages, and the two are kept separate on purpose.
